Together We Learn and Grow

Youlgrave All Saints’ C of E (VA) Primary School will inspire and nurture all to flourish through loving learning, being confident and courageous within our Christian ethos in school and the community, laughing, having fun and encouraging each other.

WE CARE Values

These are the fundamental things that we think are important to guide and motivate us to achieve our vision. Living by these values every day shapes our behaviour and creates the nurturing and happy environment we want to see in school.

Welcoming Everyone

We welcome and value everyone.

We treat everyone fairly.

Community

We are proud to be part of our school, church and wider community.

We are global citizens.

We value everyone’s part in school and community life.

Achievement

Everyone has their own unique talents and interests.

We can all achieve if we believe in ourselves.

Achievement of all kinds should be celebrated.

Respect

We are kind.

We listen to one another.

We look after ourselves, others and our environment.

Encouragement

We inspire each other to learn and enjoy new experiences.

We help each other to be brave and resilient.

We support each other to learn through our mistakes.

Theological Base

Together we learn and grow immediately, setting school as a place of learning and personal growth. We know that this is best achieved together with others so that we can support and help one another in challenging times and celebrate our achievements.

Let us encourage one another    Hebrews 10:25

Solomon advises us to learn all that we can and make the most of our education (Proverbs 23:12) which is fundamental to the school aims to have as broad a curriculum as possible and consider achievement in the broadest terms. This will prepare us to be responsible global citizens, developing good character and setting firm foundations. John 10:10 reassures us that Jesus’ coming will bring an abundant life for all and in Galatians 5:22 we learn that the development of good character is essential for all to be able to live a full and fruitful life. This is reflected in the school culture and the golden thread of character development running through our curriculum design and all wider activities in school.

Welcoming everyone reflects the inclusive nature of school. Corinthians 12 tells us that we are all needed and are all beautiful in the eyes of God. We should love each other because all are loved by God (1 John 3:1) and we are all one in Jesus Christ (Galatians 3:28). We are urged to break down societal barriers and to promote inclusivity within our community. This is reflected in school’s commitment to enabling all to succeed and flourish and removing barriers to learning and ensuring all can take part on an equitable basis. It is reflected in our work supporting families and the high commitment school places on ensuring the best outcomes for children with special educational need and disabilities.

Community and the importance and benefits of working together are recognised throughout school life and can be seen in classrooms, collective worship, clubs and sports activities as well as work involving the wider community. Our management of behaviour and modelling of good behaviour reflects the need to be kind, compassionate and forgiving (Ephesians 4:32) and that as one we can serve God and serve each other (Romans 15:7). Jesus asks us to love and support each other (John 15: 12-13).

Achievement in the broadest sense is aimed for and celebrated in school. We know that this comes from diligence and hard work (Proverbs 16:3) and learning will enable us to make good choices and to prosper (Proverbs19:8). Determination requires commitment and effort, however, we aim to make school and learning fun. We believe in the power of joy and laughter: the joy of the Lord is our strength (Nehemiah 8:10). John 15:11 reminds us of the good that is to come through our hard work and resilience.

Respect is the cornerstone of how we interact and treat ourselves, others, and the world. In school. We encourage children to think about and take responsibility for the impact of their words and actions. We are encouraged to think about how we ourselves would like to be treated (Matthew 7:12 and Mark 12:31). We should care about all of God’s family (1 Peter 2:10).

Encouragement is the overarching commitment school makes to everyone to support their personal growth and work now and in the future. We are reminded that two people working together are always better than one because we can help each other to persevere in challenging situations. (Ecclesiastes 4:9-12). The basis of this is a belief in service to one another and to God. We can only achieve this through love and using all our unique gifts for everyone’s benefit (1 Peter 4: 8-10).
