Armistice/Remembrance Day - 11th November 2020

This year we couldn't attend church in our normal way due to the Pandemic. Instead we held a 'socially distanced' remembrance ceremony in the playground. We were honoured to be joined by David Camm on behalf of the Youlgrave branch of the Royal British Legion and John and Anne Cooper on behalf of Youlgrave 1914-1918 Community Group.

David Camm thanked the school and community for their ongoing support and John Cooper remembered those who lost their lives in and after the war by reading out their names.

They kindly donated a wreath to the school, which we chose to lay on the grave of Mr Eli Throp, a former Headmaster at this school for 39 years who died in 1935

Eli shares the grave with his wife Lavinia, who was a former school mistress, who died in 1937 and their son Louis. They had 8 children, and their 4 boys all served in the army during the Great War, Louis, who served with the Seaforth Highlanders and Royal Army Medical Corps was wounded twice and died from his injuries in June 1924 aged 30 years.

The laying of the wreath was done by Mrs Stelling, our Headteacher and Rowan Carter, a Y6 pupil who has recently received the 'Bright Plate' award.

Thank you to everyone that supported this worthy cause, we are so pleased to have raised £242.93!!! smiley
