Year 1 & 2 2019-2020

Welcome to Year 1 and 2:

The children have been learning about Fairtrade this week! They are on the look out for the Fairtrade logo.

Phonics:

As discussed at parent consultations we are following a scheme called Read Write Inc which incorporates daily phonics and spelling for all our Infant children. In our English sessions we have a weekly story text which incorporates our daily guided reading; 1:1 reading, partner reading and whole group reading. Within our English lesson the children will have varied activities throughout the week including proof-reading and correcting sentences, holding a sentence (in which the children learn the concept of holding a sentence in their head and then writing it down using taught punctuation and relevant grammar). Also, the children will build up their knowledge to read words that are phonetically able to decode and words (red words) that are tricky words that we become to learn by sight. The children will also carry out writing activities building on the phonics and spelling principles and rules to enable the children to write words that are phonetically plausible. There will be a Read Write Inc workshop this half term; in which I will go through this in more detail.

Reading books for home:

Please hear your child read as often as possible. When you listen to them read, record what you have discussed and any words they struggled with in their reading record. The children have sticker charts at the back of their reading record, they can share their achievements with you!

Homework

The children are given new homework every Friday and we ask them to return their completed homework to the red box by the following Wednesday. They have a sheet of arithmatic maths homework and  sheet of grammar homework. We may give them spellings every few weeks as well, which will be words they are finding are finding tricky at school. The homework will look like this:
