Homework Expectations & Weekly Routines

Regular home learning plays a vital role in reinforcing what your child learns in class, building their confidence, and developing independent study habits. Use the guide below to help support your child's learning routine at home.

Daily Expectations

We expect all children to complete these core activities every single day:

• Daily Reading: Read for at least 20 minutes per day.
• Reading Diaries: We encourage parents to listen to your child read and record it. Where parents are unable to sign, children should log the reading themselves.
• Vocabulary Tracking: Identify and record new vocabulary words while reading, aiming for 20 new words per week.
• Spellings: Spend a few minutes practising weekly spelling words.
• Times Tables: Use Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRS), aiming for a weekly target of 30 minutes.
• Homework Books: Bring homework books back to school each day.

Weekly Homework Schedule

To help children manage their time, we use a structured daily timetable for specific spelling and maths tasks:

Day	Task	Description
Monday	Dictionary Skills	Look up and record the definitions of weekly spelling words.
Tuesday	Sentence Writing	Put each weekly spelling word into a contextually correct sentence.
Wednesday	Maths Challenge	Complete the weekly Big Maths Beat That worksheet.
Thursday	Reading Summary	Summarise this week's reading in 50 words or less.
