Welcome to Class 2!
Dear Parents and Carers,
A very warm welcome to Class 2! I’m so excited to be teaching your child this year in Year 3 and Year 4. We have a wonderful year ahead, full of exciting learning opportunities and memorable experiences.
Here’s a glimpse of what we’ll be exploring together:
- English: We’ll be reading a variety of engaging texts, including adventure stories, poetry, and non-fiction. These will inspire creative writing, drama, and discussion, helping children develop their vocabulary, grammar, and confidence.
- Maths: Our focus will be on number and place value, the four operations, fractions, measurement, geometry, and statistics. We’ll use practical activities and problem-solving to deepen understanding.
- Science: Topics include Animals Including Humans, States of Matter and Plants. Children will carry out investigations and learn to think like scientists.
- History: We’ll travel back in time to explore the fascinating world of the Stone Age Bronze Age and Iron Age, discovering how early humans lived, hunted, and built communities. Later in the year, we’ll delve into the powerful legacy of the Romans, learning about their empire, inventions, and impact on Britain.
- Geography: We’ll study Rivers, Mountains and The Water Cycle. We will learn how to use maps and undertake fieldwork to build our geographical skills.
- Art and DT: Children will experiment with drawing, painting, sculpture, and textiles, often linking their creations to our history and science topics.
- Computing: We’ll cover online safety, the internet, data handling, and digital creativity, helping children become confident and responsible users of technology.
- RE: We’ll explore beliefs and practices associated with Christianity, Islam, and Hinduism, encouraging thoughtful discussion and respect for others.
- PSHE: Topics include Drug education, Growing up, Changes, Money and Staying safe, supporting children’s wellbeing and personal development.
- Music: Children will enjoy singing, rhythm work, and learning to play a musical instrument.
- PE: We’ll develop skills in games, gymnastics, dance, and athletics, with a focus on teamwork, coordination, and fitness.
We’ll also enjoy themed days, trips, and creative projects that bring learning to life and help children make meaningful connections across subjects.
I’m really looking forward to working with you to support your child’s learning journey. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions or would like to chat.
Here’s to a fantastic year ahead!
Warm regards,
Mrs Houghton
