Autumn term

Here is an overview of our learning taking place in the Autumn term

Maths- Place value, addition and subtraction, multiplication and division and area

English- grammar and punctuation, setting descriptions, non-chronological reports and recounts

Topic- My region and another (Italy), Ancient Egypt

Science- Living things and their habitats, Animals, including humans.

Art/DT- Storytelling through art, drawing journey, food and nutrition

French- French culture, greetings, instructions and numbers

PSHE- Being healthy, relationships 

PE- Swimming, hockey, dodgeball, gymnastics and fitness

Music- Drums and music composition

RE- Following God, The Trinity

Computers- connecting computers, stop-frame animation

Reading

In Class 2, the children will take part in varying reading activities. They will read individually every day, where they will be heard by an adult in school. They will take part in reading comprehension lessons, learning how to answer certain question types and really understand the text they are reading. 

Children are expected to read 3-4 times a week at home and have an adult sign their reading diary (this will be checked daily)

All children will have an Accelerated reader book, which once they have finished they can complete a quiz for that book. 

They will also have a library book to read for pleasure, which can be changed weekly. 

I encourage children to read their reading book as much as possible, as this is set to their learning level. However, I also encourage children to read books at home. This can be a book chosen by them, or one they are reading with an adult. All of this can be recorded in the reading diary.
