'A Church School'

A Church School

Youlgrave All-Saints is a Church of England Voluntary Aided Primary School.

The school celebrated 350 years of education in 2022. The first village Primary School was built in 1672 and had 25 pupils on roll, the site where it was built is now occupied by the imposing Victorian structure of the Youlgrave Co-operative Society building (1887) with it`s three-arched palisaded front, which is now used as a youth hostel and stands opposite the Fountain in the village centre.

The school as we know it today stands next to the church and was erected in 1887, with the dining room & kitchen being added almost a century later in 1979 and now having 71 pupils on roll.

In recognition of its historic foundation the school aims to serve it’s community by providing education of the highest quality within the context of Christian belief and practice.  It encourages an understanding of the meaning of faith and promotes Christian values through the experiences it offers its pupils.

There are two foundation Governors that represent the Church.

The Briddons, The Mast team and Reverend Adele Barker support the school to lead collective worship. The children in school regularly attend services at Church to recognise the important Christian Festivals including Harvest, Christmas, Christingle and Easter.

The links with the Church help the children to become familiar with Christian worship, values and traditions within the larger context of the many beliefs and spiritualties in society.

We wish to reassure parents and families that our lessons and assemblies are not designed to convert pupils or urge particular beliefs but to promote understanding and respect for a wide variety of faiths, beliefs and approaches.

‘Preparing the way for life in all its fullness.’

The school will prepare the way for a future in an ever-changing world, through a curriculum rich in creative learning opportunities, underpinned by Christian values.  Our children will be part of an inclusive community, where everyone feels valued, safe and special; where they love to learn and learn to love.
