On a gorgeous sunny afternoon in May, our year 3 & 4 children took part with other local schools in a multi-sports festival of games, held on Youlgrave playing field. Activities included athletics, golf, cricket, tennis and rounders. We even managed to win a trophy for 'Passion', rewarding us for the energy and enthusiasm committed towards all the activities!
On March 31st our Class 3 hockey stars secured their second trophy of the year when they took part in the small schools' hockey tournament, in Tideswell. Despite the challenging snow blizzards and the extreme cold, the children remained resilient, determined and respectful and were a total credit to our school.
Year 5/6 Netball Champions!
On Thursday 10th March, Class 3 took part in an inter-schools' netball competition at Longstone Primary School. All of our teams did well and we even had to play ourselves to get into the semi-final! After some fierce competition and much cheering, we were able to secure our place as champions of the small schools' netball tournament. Well done Class 3 - it was a great team effort!
We Are The Dodgeball Champions!
On Thursday 21st October, the dodgeball warriors of Class 2 competed in a competition against other local schools. After some intense matches and a semi final where our two teams even had to play against each other, we managed to secure the trophy for Youlgrave. All in all, it was a great day out and a fantastic end to the first half term!

Summer Term Cricket
Throughout the Summer term, all the children have enjoyed cricket coaching sessions delivered by Mr. Hadfield, on behalf of Derbyshire Cricket Foundation. We have loved being out on our glorious playing field and having the chance to put some of our new skills into practice. Several of the children have also joined the 'Chance to Shine' cricket programme run by Youlgrave Cricket Club.
National Football Week 24th-28th May, 2021
To celebrate this event, children took part in intra-class football competitions.
Class 1 had 4 mixed boys and girls teams: The Shooting Stars, The Hot Shots, The Golden Kickers and The Ninja Warriors. Victory, went to The Hot Shots!
Class 2 played two all female teams: The Dream Team and The Blue Whales, with The Dream Team clinching the victory! The two boys' teams were called The Gucci Gang and The Green Greek Gods! After some great battling, The Gucci Gang took the title.
Class 3 were lucky enough to have a visit from 'Coach Dave' from Bakewell Town Football Club. He was not only impressed with the talents and skills of the children, but also their great attitude, manners and encouragement of each other.
Bikeability Training, May 2021.
Year 6 children had a fantastic time with trainer Nicky, learning to check and control their bikes in the playground before heading out on the roads of Youlgrave Village. They faced every kind of weather possible and did so well to cycle safely and responsibly, whilst learning the rules and techniques of cycling on the road. It was an invaluable experience!
Balance Bikes Afternoon 30.03.21
Janice and James from the Rural Schools' Sports Partnership helped to deliver a fun afternoon of balance bike training to the reception children. A balance bike is a training bicycle (without pedals, a chain or gears) which helps young children learn balance and steering. The rider first walks the bike, while standing over the saddle, then while sitting in the saddle. Eventually, the rider feels comfortable enough to run and 'scoot' while riding the bicycle, then to lift both feet off the ground and cruise while balancing on the two wheels.
