As part of our topic on Darwin's delights we will look in more detail at his voyage around the world and some of the places he visited. In today's lesson we're going to learn a little bit more about the ship he travelled on and then locate the different places in the world he visited.

Tuesday 2nd March 2021.

L.O: To understand what the HMS Beagle would have looked like and where she visited in the world.

FIRST: Have a look at the YouTube video and the website below about the HMS Beagle. Try to imagine what life  on board the ship might have been like. They weren't on the boat for a 30min pleasure ride (like the pirate ships in Whitby), or an overnight ferry crossing from Dover to Calais, or even a two week cruise. They were on this sailing boat for 5 years! We've been in lockdown in our own homes for nearly a year with our family. Imagine what it was like to spend 5 years on a boat with work friends!  Write a sentence or two in your books describing what you think it might have been like on this 5 year voayage.

THEN: Use the geography map to find and label the different places they visited. Stick the map in your books.

FINALLY: Check that you managed to find and label all the places correctly using 'The Voyage of the Beagle' sheet.
